Leafs test Trojans at top spots in conference loss

GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Taylor University Tuesday at the Goshen College Tennis Complex.

The Trojans (7-5, 5-3) moved one step closer to a home match in the conference tournament, getting straightforward wins at the two lowest doubles positions to start the match on the positive side. Goshen's Hannah McCoy and Victoria Oakes stretched the no. 1 match into a tiebreak before losing 7-5 there.

In singles action, Sarah Hinshaw came the closest to a set for the Maple Leafs (1-12, 0-8). Hinshaw played a pair of 7-5 stanzas against Katelyn Gray at no. 1 singles. Taylor won all six singles matches in straight sets, with Victoria Oakes and Anna Osborne each winning 2 games in a set.

The Maple Leafs return to the court on Thursday for their Crossroads League regular-season finale against Spring Arbor University. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at SAU's Jones Tennis Complex.
