GOSHEN, Ind. — Hannah McCoy and Anna Osborne each recorded singles wins as the Goshen College women's tennis team wrapped up a two-match day on Saturday, losing 5-2 to Aquinas College and 7-0 to Indiana Wesleyan University at the Goshen College Tennis Complex.
McCoy's win was straightforward if not short, posting a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Kiara Berry at no. 3 singles, while Osborne went to a third-set super tiebreak in a 6-1, 3-6, (10-8) victory over Bailey Chouinard one spot down the lineup.
Unfortunately, the team match had been decided as Aquinas (1-1) swept the doubles matches and won each of the remaining four singles positions in straight sets. Ashley Arroyo and Kyra Krall won five and four games respectively for the Maple Leafs (0-7).
Osborne teamed with Victoria Oakes to post Goshen's best challenge of the evening at no. 1 singles, staying level with their Saint foes until a late break of serve in a 7-5 loss. Sarah Hinshaw and McCoy dropped a 6-3 decision at no. 2.
In the opener, the Maple Leafs met an Indiana Wesleyan team that entered the day undefeated and finished the day still undefeated. The Wildcats won all nine matches, including a clean sweep in doubles, and posted at least one 6-0 set in each match.
IWU's Lizzie Bauss, Lena Golz and Kayla Dubuque each played two matches without dropping a game.
GC is back in action on Tuesday, hosting 25th-ranked Marian at 4 p.m.
