WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The Goshen College men's tennis team came up empty in each half of its third Crossroads League tri-match of the season, losing to Grace College and Huntington University by identical 6-1 margins Saturday at Grace's Miller Field courts.

Pedro Scattolon recorded the afternoon's wins for the Maple Leafs (2-6, 2-4), posting third-set tiebreak victories in the fifth singles slots in both matches. In both cases, he won the first set and lost the second but recovered to take the tiebreaker that is used in lieu of a third set when teams play multiple matches in a day.

Goshen had another singles match go the distance in terms of a third set in each of the two matches, with Insee Akarapan taking that mantle at no. 3 in the opener and Mario Gomez doing it in the latter match at no. 6. While the scoreline shows Jonah Anderson falling in straight sets at no. 2 singles, he went the distance in a different way, stretching the match out to the final game against Grace in a 7-5 second-set loss and dropping a pair of tiebreakers to Huntington.

Anderson and Gomez put forth Goshen's best scoreboard showing of the day in doubles, a 6-4 loss to Huntington's Diego Tapia and Illia Turaba.

Grace had three double winners in the first match and Huntington had five in the second.

GC returns to action with its final league tri-match of the season on Tuesday at Marian. The Maple Leafs will meet Bethel University at 1 p.m. in a U.S. Highway 20 Cup match before closing out the conference season at 4:30 p.m. against the host Knights.
