GOSHEN, Ind. — Four days after starting their seasons against one team from the Summit City, the Goshen College men's and women's tennis teams fell on harder luck Wednesday afternoon as each side lost to Indiana Tech 6-1 in non-conference competition at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Indiana Tech, playing its season opener for both teams, took both doubles points. Goshen's best effort on the scoreboard came at the two no. 1 spots, where Kevin Bollmann and Josh Friesen took Juan Avellanada and Phil Labbe to a tiebreaker at 6-all before dropping that 7-3 on the men's side and Sarah Hinshaw and Hannah McCoy challenged Marianna Murcia and Valentina Rodriguez to a 7-6(4) set.

With that segment behind them, the Maple Leafs needed to take four of the six singles matches in each match to prevail in the team tally. They got one apiece. On the women's side, that was the last match off the court as Hinshaw edged Ana Gomez 10-5 in a match tiebreaker. The men's match was decided as Tech won the first three matches off the court, but Bollmann kept GC's pride going with a shutout second set in his straight-set win over Kayra Kargin.

Goshen will travel to Marion, Indiana, on Friday to compete in another pair of non-conference matches against Holy Cross College. The matches are set for 4 p.m. EDT at Indiana Wesleyan University's Sutter Tennis Center, where Holy Cross will be competing in a tournament on Thursday and Friday.

The Maple Leafs' next home matches are Saturday in a Crossroads League tri-match against Spring Arbor University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Goshen will take on SAU at 9:30 a.m. and MVNU at 4:30 p.m.
