GOSHEN, Ind. — Goshen College won at the bottom of the singles lineup and Aquinas College won at the top Saturday as the Maple Leafs wrapped up their fall tennis season with a pair of defeats at the John Ingold Athletic Complex. Aquinas won the men's match 5-2 and the women's match 4-3.

Pedro Scattolon won a pair of matches for the Maple Leaf men (5-9), who picked up wins at each of the bottom two singles positions. Scattolon passed up a single game in his 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Brandon McEachern at no. 5 and Mario Gomez also had a 6-1 set in his win at the sixth position.

The Maple Leafs also had chances at a pair of third sets at the top spots as Kevin Bollmann and Jonah Anderson picked up matching 6-2 second-set wins after dropping the first sets of their matches.

Senior Josh Friesen, playing his final fall home match as a Maple Leaf, paired with Scattolon to pick up a 6-2 win at no. 1 doubles, but the Saints (1-2) outpaced GC 12-4 at the other two positions to nab the doubles point.

Anna Osborne picked up a straight-set win on the singles side of the ledger for the Maple Leaf women who nabbed a singles match by default and picked up the doubles point with a commanding 6-3 win by Sarah Hinshaw and Hannah McCoy.

Hinshaw also picked up a set win on the singles courts, claiming seven of the eight points in a tiebreak in her second set at no. 3 to send the match into a tiebreaker before losing 10-7 there.

The Maple Leafs will return to action next week at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NAIA Midwest Regional hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University at the Sutter Tennis Center in Marion. The individual event has no team scoring and pairings will be made early next week.
