GCMVB wins fourth straight match

Akarapan and Salinas shine for Goshen

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Goshen men's volleyball team got better each set as they faced Maranatha Baptist in Wisconsin on Saturday. Goshen won three sets to none, 25-16, 25-12, 25-8.

Insee Akarapan made his first start and led all players on the court with ten kills. He had a hitting percentage of .381 and added four assists and five digs. "He did a little bit of everything," shared head coach Lauren Ford. "He has a lot of power behind his swing and great defense. He brings great energy to the court."

Andrew Salinas also got some playing time. He led both teams with 14 assists. Salinas also had three kills, no attack errors, a solo block, and two digs. "Andrew is the jack of all trades," says Ford. "He sets, he defends and hits. Insee and Andrew are two valuable pieces to the future of this program."

In the first set, the Sabercats were in it until five straight Goshen points gave the Maple Leafs a nine-point lead instead of a four-point lead. A similar story occurred in the seconds set when Goshen took an 11-9 lead and improved it to an 18-9 advantage.

The third set was different, however. After losing the first point, Goshen scored the next nine and cruised to a 25-8 victory in that set. The Leafs had 17 kills and just one error in the third, with a hitting percentage of .696.

Ian Fox had seven kills for Goshen. Alexander Rabadzhiev added six kills, nine digs, and five assists. Michael Wahl had 13 assists and four digs.

GC improves to 12-4 this season and has won its last four matches. Among their most recent seven matches, five of them have been 3-0 wins. Goshen next plays on Friday, February 25, at Adrian College. That match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
