SYLVANIA, Ohio - Wyatt Bollinger surpassed 1,000 career collegiate assists on Saturday at #10 Lourdes, but the Gray Wolves won in three sets after winning in four on Friday in Goshen.
Bollinger had 639 assists at Eastern Mennonite University and 349 at Goshen heading into the match. He was 12 assists away and recorded 30 tonight, putting him at 1,018 for his career currently. Bollinger played at EMU from 2018-2022 and is in his first season as a Maple Leaf.
Lourdes quickly took a 7-1 lead in the first set, but Goshen used a timeout and regrouped. The Leafs tied it for the first time at 22-22 and took their first lead at 25-24. However, the Gray Wolves won three straight points to take the first set in a tough 27-25 battle.
The Leafs led for most of the second set until a 6-0 run by the home team put them up 20-16. GC came back within a point on multiple occasions, but Lourdes won 25-21. They had a .519 hitting percentage in that set.
Goshen scored the first four points in the third set and led until Lourdes tied it at 19. It was during an 8-0 scoring run where they took a 23-19 lead before winning 25-21 again. Lourdes is now 7-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
The Gray Wolves had 15 more kills, 14 more assists and 11 more digs than Goshen. The Maple Leafs dominated in aces, winning the category 5-1.
Hasan Hadzic had 17 kills and six digs.
Ishmail Bangura totaled ten kills, three block assists and seven digs.
Christian Rodriguez had seven digs and
Andy Bennett had three block assists. Lourdes was led by 19 kills from Eduardo Ayala, 42 assists from George Tsogtbaatar and 12 digs from Gabriel Vianna. Ayala is third in the NAIA in kills this season.
The Maple Leafs now have a stretch of four consecutive home matches. First they take on Cornerstone on Friday, March 3, at 7:00 pm. Cornerstone is receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll.
