FORT WAYNE, Ind. - With an 8-3 game two win at Saint Francis on Friday, the GC softball team achieved 21 wins for their third straight full season. It is their fourth straight with at least 20 wins. Saint Francis won game one 7-5.
The Leafs bursted out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one with a passed ball causing runs to score on two occasions.
Alisyn Catenacci hit an RBI single to score the other run. The Cougars came right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. They then added four runs between the third and fifth innings to go up 7-3.
Kyra Wilson hit a two-run homer for Goshen in the sixth to bring Goshen within two, but 7-5 would be the final score.
Bianca Diamond went 2-4 with a double and a run. Starter
Shea VanScoter had the loss and is now 8-3 this season.
Grace Schmitt allowed one run in 2.2 innings of relief.
Goshen laid down 19 hits in game two - their second-highest total in a game this season.
USF had a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, but the Leafs controlled the momentum for the rest of the day. Six different players had RBI singles in the game -
Peyton Foreman,
Kaylee Kates, Lilliana Herrera,
Bianca Diamond,
Mckenzie Richardson and
Alyssa McDonald. Additionally, Kates scored a run when Diamond grounded into a double play in the fourth.
VanScoter and Diamond each went 4-5 with two stolen bases. As a team, the Leafs tied a season-high with seven stolen bases. Kates had three hits and Richardson and Foreman each had two. Foreman had a batting average of .167 heading into the week, but it has skyrocketed up to .286.
Alisyn Catenacci pitched a complete seven innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. She has a record of 11-6 this year.
Goshen (21-14, 13-9 CL) hosts #12 Marian on Saturday, April 15, at 1:00 pm. The Knights won the two games in Indy this year 7-2 and 8-6.
