Trojans take two, teams face off again on Friday in Upland

Lockhart celebrates birthday with first collegiate extra-base hit

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen softball team lost twice to Taylor at home on Wednesday in games that were moved back a day due to weather. Goshen is at Taylor on Friday before facing Spring Arbor on Saturday to conclude the regular season portion of the schedule.

Game one was scoreless until Bianca Diamond hit an RBI double to left field in the fourth inning that was inches away from being a home run. The Trojans scored twice in the fifth, but the Leafs responded in the bottom half. With runners at the corners, Shea VanScoter reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop as Kyra Wilson slid into home. That tied the game, but Delaynee McCreary doubled to center in the sixth, which scored Meg Stanley. That put the visitors up 3-2, and Goshen didn't score in the final two innings.

Alisyn Catenacci threw seven innings and allowed three earned runs. She threw five strikeouts - adding to her season total of 79. Ella Mcleod had two of Goshen's four hits and added a stolen base and a run. Sydney Lockhart celebrated her birthday with a triple, her first collegiate extra-base hit. Bianca Diamond added a double.

In game two, the Trojans got on the board early in the top of the first with a two-RBI single from Caitlyn Grim. Shea VanScoter cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to center field, and Peyton Foreman helped tie it with an RBI groundout in the second, scoring Ellie Van Heerde.

Taylor had two runs on three hits in the fourth and sixth innings to go up 6-2. Foreman tripled to center field to start the bottom of the seventh for the Leafs, and she crossed home plate when Mckenzie Richardson singled down the left field line. Unfortunately, the game ended with a popup followed by a lineout double play, and Taylor left with a 6-3 win in game two.

VanScoter allowed four earned runs in seven innings pitched. She leads the team with a 4.09 ERA this season. She went 2-3 at the plate with the home run and a stolen base to her credit.

The Leafs are fifth in the Crossroads League standings with four games to go in the regular season. They are at Taylor on Friday, April 28, at 4:00 pm.
