Box Score 2 HUNTINGTON, Ind. - After the Wednesday games of the series were postponed to April 24, the Goshen and Huntington baseball teams played their Thursday games as scheduled at Forest Glen Park. Huntington won the games 5-1 and 3-0.
The Foresters got a run in the first inning of game one on a sacrifice fly. They added a solo home run in the third and a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 4-0. In the top of the seventh inning,
Joseph Cerda reached base on an error and advanced to second. It was one of three Huntington errors in the game - the Maple Leafs had none. Later in the inning,
Dalton Soergel reached base on another error, and Cerda scored from second to make it 4-1. Goshen's first hit didn't come until there was one out in the top of the ninth, when Cerda hit a single.
Joey Butz pitched five innings for the Foresters. He threw eight strikeouts, while allowing no walks, hits, or runs. Graham Kollen threw the last four innings and did much of the same. He had five strikeouts and two walks, allowing one hit and one unearned run.
Eric Pettipiece allowed five hits and five earned runs in 6.1 innings. He had six strikeouts and four walks.
Josh Murphy pitched the remaining 1.2 innings and allowed no earned runs or walks while getting two strikeouts.
All of the scoring in game two happened in the bottom of the first inning. The Foresters scored on three separate occasions - an RBI single, RBI double, and sacrifice lineout. Goshen starter
AJ Lenn got comfortable after that. He would go four innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He threw four strikeouts and allowed two walks.
David Lopez threw the next two innings and didn't allow any runs or hits.
The Maple Leafs had four hits but they couldn't string them together - as they came in four different innings.
Ryan Maloney hit a double and
Ryan Spillman,
Char Reeves, and
Justin Harris hit singles.
Chris Godden and
Nate Lange had stolen bases.
The Maple Leafs are at Spring Arbor on Monday, April 10, starting at 1:00 pm. These games were originally supposed to be played on March 25. Then, Goshen has six straight home games - beginning on Friday, April 14, at 1:00 pm against Saint Francis.
