GOSHEN, Ind. - After a season-opening win against Lakeland, the Goshen men's volleyball team lost their second match of the year to Calumet College of St. Joseph in three sets. The Crimson Wave won 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.
When the teams were tied 14-14 in the first set, the Crimson Wave went on a 5-0 run to go up 19-14 and won the set by six. The Leafs led 17-13 in the second set before CCSJ ended it on a 12-6 run. Goshen was in it early in the third set, but five straight points made a 7-6 Calumet lead into a 12-6 advantage. They won it 25-19.
Goshen had ten kills from
Hasan Hadzic but had seven attack errors and a .094 hitting percentage.
Igor Sapucaia had 14 assists, four digs, two block assists, three kills and no attack errors.
Ishmail Bangura had four aces and four service errors. The Leafs had 16 block assists, double the number of their opponents.
Sawyer Frystak,
Bruno Barac and Hadzic had three block assists each.
Ben Koop had two solo blocks.
Goshen (1-1) has their first road test on Saturday, February 3. They face #9 Georgetown at 1:00 pm as part of the Georgetown Tri-Match. Later that day, they will face Warner at 4:00 pm, a team receiving votes in the coaches poll.
