COLUMBIA, Ky. - Crossroads League play is next for Goshen baseball after the team lost both games of a doubleheader against Lindsey Wilson on Saturday in Kentucky. The Blue Raiders won 4-0 in game one and 9-5 in game two.
Game One
Goshen's two pitchers in game one,
Baylor Orcutt and
Benjamin Witterstaetter, combined to allow just three earned runs. Witterstaetter didn't allow any hits in three innings of relief. However, Lindsey Wilson starter Cohen Achen went seven innings without allowing an earned run, striking out 16 of the 28 batters he faced.
The Leafs had four hits, and two came from shortstop
Andres Garcia. He had a double, a single, a walk and a stolen base. They were his first two hits this season.
Jenner Rodammer and
Joshua Rubio had a single each.
Game Two
The first runs of the afternoon for the Maple Leafs came in the first inning of game two when Rodammer doubled to right center to score Garcia. Rodammer scored later in the inning as
Joseph Cerda hit an RBI groundout. The Blue Raiders had a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning, but the Leafs retook the lead in the third as
Trent Sillett hit a two-RBI single to left field.
Peyton Smith had an RBI single up the middle later in the inning, and it was 5-3 Maple Leafs.
After that point, the home team had six unanswered runs.
Peyton Smith had the start and was taken out after four innings and five runs allowed.
Josh Murphy allowed three earned runs in the remaining two innings.
Silent went 2-4, and Garcia and Rodammer each scored twice.
Goshen is at Marian on Thursday, February 29, at 1:00 pm. Then they will host the Knights on Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 pm.
