GOSHEN, Ind. - After being down two sets to one, the Goshen men's volleyball team rallied to win the fourth set but fell in a tight fifth set to Judson on Wednesday, a team receiving votes in the coaches poll. The Eagles won 25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13.
Judson had 16 kills and just three attack errors in the first set, with a hitting percentage of .448. They couldn't sustain that mark, but they still hit over .300 for the match. The Leafs never let their opponents take the lead in the second set, going up 3-0 and never looking back.
Goshen had a set point at 24-23 in the third set, but the Eagles capitalized on a GC service error followed by an attack error. Mason Snodgrass had the winning kill and a third straight point for Judson as they won 26-24.
The Maple Leafs allowed a 6-0 run early in the fourth that put the Eagles up 8-5 but got four of their final five points on kills from
Ishmail Bangura, two from
Hasan Hadzic and the final from
Ben Koop. The teams were tied 12-12 in the fifth set when Judson won three of the final four points to take the set 15-13.
Hasan Hadzic had 23 kills, one away from tying a career-high at Goshen. He had a hitting percentage of .475, three block assists, and two aces, but he also had nine service errors.
Pablo Sanchez had 11 digs and
Avery Laforce had a season-high with 40 assists.
Ian Fox had four block assists.
Goshen (2-3) hosts Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, February 10, at 3:00 pm.
