Box Score 4 MARION, Ind. - Goshen handed Indiana Wesleyan just their second Crossroads League loss of the season on Friday evening. The Wildcats crushed the Maple Leafs 25-2 in the first game, but
David Lopez led GC on the mound in an 8-2 game two win that went to extras. On Saturday, IWU won by 20-5 and 18-7 scores.
We will have box scores from games one and two once correct statistics from the games become available.
Game One
The Wildcats scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and another three in the third. The fourth inning was the first that the Leafs held the IWU offense scoreless, but the fifth inning was quite the opposite.
Indiana Wesleyan scored 15 runs on nine hits in the fifth with a grand slam thrown in. Goshen scored a couple of runs in the top of the fifth on some RBI groundouts. The Wildcats outhit Goshen in the game 20-4 and the Maple Leafs had five errors.
Joshua Rubio had two of Goshen's four hits.
Joey Paternostro and
Andres Garcia had RBIs for the Leafs.
Game Two
The Leafs turned the tables in the second game. This time, Goshen outhit Indiana Wesleyan 17-4.
David Lopez had another strong outing, throwing five innings and allowing two earned runs and just two hits. He struck out four batters and walked five.
Jarrett Willoughby threw the next three innings, giving up no runs and just two hits.
It was 2-2 after the seventh inning.
Jenner Rodammer had a solo home run in the third and
Trent Sillett hit an RBI single in the fifth. The Wildcats' runs came in the fifth on an RBI single and an RBI groundout.
To start extra innings, Goshen scored six runs on seven hits in the eighth.
Andres Garcia,
Joseph Cerda, and
Peyton Smith hit RBI singles, and
Jenner Rodammer had an RBI double. Willoughby held off IWU from scoring in the bottom half of the inning. The Wildcats had runners on the corners when the game ended on a swinging strikeout.
Rodammer had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored in the win. He was a triple away from a cycle.
Peyton Smith and
Joseph Cerda each had two RBIs. Garcia, Cerda, Sillett, Rubio and Smith had two hits apiece.
Before the game two win, Goshen had lost 17 straight against IWU. The last win came on April 12, 2018 - a 7-6 win in Goshen. The last win for the Leafs in Marion was on April 15, 2017, when Goshen won 23-11. Current head coach
Brad Stoltzfus played in that game and went 3-6 with two home runs, three runs and four RBIs. He was 2-5 with two runs in the 2018 win in Goshen.
Game Three
The Wildcats used a large 11-run inning in Saturday's first game to win 20-5.
They powered through with 20 hits in the game, as well as eight walks and three hit batters. They forced the Goshen pitchers to throw 174 pitches over six innings.
The Leafs scored first when
Justin Dambruck's first-inning single scored
Jenner Rodammer. When the Leafs scored their second run on a fielder's choice in the third, they were down 5-2.
Andres Garcia hit a two-run home run in the fourth, and
Trent Sillett had an RBI single in the sixth.
Garcia's homer was his second of the season. The senior has a .419 batting average this year.
Baylor Orcutt had the loss, allowing seven earned runs in 2.2 innings.
Game Four
Indiana Wesleyan had yet another big inning in the next game - this time in the first. They scored nine runs on seven hits after Goshen started the game with three consecutive strikeouts. They had just 12 hits but walked eight times and were hit by pitches five times.
Braxton Pratt was the bright spot for Goshen on the mound. In 1.2 innings, he gave up no earned runs, hits, or walks while striking out one.
Garcia and Sillett hit RBI singles in the third. The Leafs had a five-run sixth inning, but it wasn't enough, as IWU had already scored all 18 runs by that point.
Curtis Huffman finished 2-3 with a run. Seven different players scored Goshen's seven runs.
