GOSHEN, Ind. - #7 Marian won 11-1 and 7-6 on Sunday to complete the four-game series sweep of Goshen.
Game One
Marian had significant five-run innings in the first and fourth innings of game one. In the other three innings, they had just one run.
Ten of their 12 hits were in the first and fourth. Eight of the 11 runs came from home runs. Goshen's run came from a
Carissa Fillingame triple in the bottom of the fifth that brought
Esme Pico home.
Marian's Olivia Stunkel is 17-2 this season with the win and Goshen's
Alisyn Catenacci is 4-4 with the loss. In addition to Fillingame's triple, the other GC hits were a double from
Esme Pico and a single off the bat of
Kyra Wilson. Goshen's 1-4 hitters were 0-8.
Game Two
Alisyn Catenacci hit her fourth home run of the week, a three-run shot over the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning of game two. That was after
Grace Schmitt's RBI single, which scored leadoff hitter
Shea VanScoter.
Marian cut the lead in half in the second, but starting pitcher
Shea VanScoter immediately responded at the plate with a solo homer to right. The Knights tied the game in the fourth with a pair of doubles that brought runs home, but Goshen retook the lead in the bottom half with an RBI single by
Olivia Gibson.
Down to their final out in the top of the seventh, MU took the lead on a twp-RBI single to center field from Abby Madere. The Maple Leafs had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but a swinging strikeout ended the game.
VanScoter and Gibson had two hits each for Goshen.Â
