UPLAND, Ind. - Goshen lost twice at #18 Taylor on Thursday, 10-0 and 10-2. Taylor clinched the Crossroads League regular season title with the game two win and Goshen was eliminated from playoff contention with their game one loss. Goshen is locked into finishing ninth in the league standings.
Game One
With a six-run eighth inning, Taylor took a 4-0 lead and watched it balloon to a 10-0 win by mercy rule.
The Trojans had a three-run home run from Brayden Manning in the first inning, but the 3-0 score held tight until the sixth inning. Goshen starter
Corey Brown would pitch five innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. He had one strikeout and walked four.
Lance Wilson pitched the next two innings for the Maple Leafs and allowed no earned runs in two innings. He allowed one run on three hits. The bottom of the eighth involved six Taylor runs on four hits with one Goshen error.
Goshen had five hits compared to 15 for the home team.
Joseph Cerda went 2-4.
Jenner Rodammer had two walks and a stolen base.
Game Two
Despite losing by eight runs, Goshen outhit Taylor 7-6. Unfortunately, the Leafs left eight runners on base in the game, including five in the last two innings.
Jenner Rodammer started the scoring with a home run to left field in the first inning, his eighth of the season. Taylor immediately fired back and turned a 1-0 deficit to a 4-1 lead. After the fourth, the lead had increased to 10-1.
The scoring stopped for both teams until the top of the seventh, when Rodammer hit an RBI single to score
Joshua Rubio and make it 10-2. With the bases then loaded, the Leafs followed the at-bat with a flyout and a groundout to end the game.
Rodammer was 3-3 with a run, two RBIs, two singles, a home run, a stolen base and he was hit by a pitch once. The rest of the lineup was 4-25.
Peyton Smith allowed four earned runs and recorded just one out, picking up the loss to move to 2-5.
Josh Murphy allowed three earned runs in 2.0 innings and
Drew Miles allowed three over the next 3.2 innings.
Goshen concludes the season on Saturday at 1:00 pm - games that were originally scheduled for Friday but were moved due to the weather.
