UPLAND, Ind. - With two wins at Taylor on Friday, the Goshen College softball program set the school record for wins in a season with 25. They defeated Taylor 5-3 and 7-4. Goshen had two wins against Taylor over their previous 26 meetings.
Game One
Though they were down 2-1, a three-run fourth inning and a late home run by
Alisyn Catenacci gave the Leafs a 5-3 victory in game one, ending a four-game losing streak to the Trojans.
Taylor's Livie Lehmann hit RBI singles in the first and third innings. Goshen's first run came in the second as
Sydney Lockhart stole home, and
Alisyn Catenacci was caught stealing second. In the fourth, Catenacci walked and
Kamille Badibanga singled.
Shea VanScoter hit a double to bring Catenacci home. Later in the inning,
Olivia Gibson hit an RBI groundout to score Badibanga and
Shea VanScoter scored Goshen's fourth run of the game on a wild pitch.
After some quick innings, the score stayed 4-2, but
Alisyn Catenacci hit a home run to left center to extend the lead to three. The Trojans scored once in the bottom of the seventh, but 5-3 was the final score.
Esme Pico earned the win, with nearly 70% of her 110 pitches over seven innings being strikes. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits and is now 7-4 this season.
Kamille Badibanga went 4-4 with four singles, her first collegiate career game with four hits.
Shea VanScoter hit two doubles and
Alisyn Catenacci had the home run and a single.
Game Two
The Maple Leafs scored two runs early in the first.
Bianca Diamond sent a shot down the right field line to score
Shea VanScoter and
Grace Schmitt added a sac fly to score Diamond later in the inning.
Carissa Fillingame hit an RBI single in the third to make it 3-1.
Taylor scored their first run in the fourth, but Diamond scored for the second time in the fifth to make the GC lead 4-1. The momentum changed in the sixth when a bases-clearing single for the Trojans tied the game. However, Goshen came back with three runs of their own in the next half-inning. Schmitt had her second sacrifice fly of the game,
Carissa Fillingame contributed an RBI single and
Sydney Lockhart had an RBI groundout to take the lead to 7-4, the final score.
Goshen had 14 hits and capitalized on three Taylor errors.
Bianca Diamond was 3-4 with three runs and
Carissa Fillingame went 3-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Kamille Badibanga had two hits to finish the doubleheader with six hits.
Olivia Gibson and
Shea VanScoter also had two hits apiece.
VanScoter allowed four earned runs over 6.1 innings. She had five strikeouts thrown.
Alisyn Catenacci got the other two outs.
Goshen wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Spring Arbor at 1:00 pm.
