PULASKI, Tenn. - Both tennis teams earned wins on Thursday on their Tennessee trip at Tennessee Southern. In the play to clinch format, the women won 4-0 and the men won 4-2.
Women - Goshen 4, Tennessee Southern 0
While
Sara Nino and
Uliana Dotsenko were leading 4-2 in #2 doubles, Goshen had already clinched the point with a 6-1 win from
Marin Kawano and
Vishmi Serasinghe in #1 doubles and a 6-2 win from
Maria Clara Fonte and
Blanka Bodo in #3 doubles. Bodo and Fonte have 6-1 doubles records this season. Kawano and Serasinghe are both 4-1.
The three points that Goshen earned in singles all came from dominant wins. Kawano won 6-0, 6-0 in #5 singles to improve to 3-1 in singles this season. Dotsenko had a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1 singles and is sitting at a 4-1 record. Bodo also had a 4-1 record after a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. Serasinghe and Fonte were up in the second sets after winning the first.
Sara Nino won her first set at #4 singles and was tied in the second set.
Men - Goshen 4, Tennessee Southern 2
The men won all three doubles matches.
Garrett Stoltzfus and
Iago Ciucio are 6-1 this year after winning 6-3 at #1 doubles.
Filippo Gallo and
Timo Novak won by the same score at #2 doubles. Novak has a 5-1 record and Gallo is 4-1.
Paulo Lopez and
Joaquin Luque won by a 6-4 score at #3 doubles. Luque is 5-1 and Lopez is 4-1.
Gallo had the most dominant singles win with a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline at #3 singles.
Iago Ciucio won 6-4, 6-2 at #1 singles and
Timo Novak won 6-1, 7-5 at #2. Ciucio is 8-2 in singles, Novak is 7-1 and Gallo is 5-1.
Bruno Ferrera was up 6-3, 5-3 at #6 singles before Goshen had clinched the match.
While down in Tennessee, the Leafs compete in the individual Fall Invitational over the next two days.
