Women finish 24th, men in 49th at Midwest Collegiate Championship

The women placed ahead of Huntington, Grace and MVNU

DETROIT, Mich. - The Goshen men's and women's bowling teams competed over the weekend at the 54th Annual Brunswick Midwest Collegiate Championship, a Tier I tournament. The women came in 24th of 42 teams with 6,934 total pins and the men were 49th of 51 teams with 6,793 pins. The teams played five regular and 16 baker games.

Women - 24th of 42
The women had scores of 794, 817 and 704 for their first three regular games, but stepped it up with scores of 888 and 861 in the next two. Rebekah Muzyk led the Leafs with a score of 869, placing 70th of 304 individuals. She had an average score of 173.8 pins per game, with a season high of 219 in her fifth game. Guliana Castiglione wasn't far behind in 74th with a 172.8 average and tied a career-high game score of 232 in her first regular game. Bailey Friars came in 113th with a 155.2 average and Lexie Strong was 150th with a 171.8 average over three games. Strong's score of 233 in the fourth regular game is the highest score for anyone on the team this season. Kaidance Gates placed 207th and averaged 148.0 pins across three games played.

Across the 16 baker games, Goshen had scores between 151 and 232. The Leafs placed ahead of a few Crossroads League opponents - Huntington (29th), Grace (33rd) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (37th). Marian was the other school from the conference in attendance - they finished 13th.

Men - 49th of 51
The men had a score of 902 in their fourth regular game - their other four scores were between 811 and 837. Brendan Riley was the top finisher with an average of 183.2 pins per game. He placed 112th out of 400. Hayden Grindle was next with a 174.5 average over four games and came in 187th place. Matthew Dominiano wasn't much further back in 189th with a 173.0 average. Two of his three games were above 200 - a 205 in the third game and a season-high 227 in the fourth. Nik Bressert came in 200th with a 162.5 average across four games, improving his season average. Blake Fisher was 275th with a 160.3 average over three games.

In 16 baker games, the men posted scores between 115 and 210. Goshen placed ahead of Mount Vernon Nazarene (51st) and was less than 200 pins away from Grace, who came in 46th. Huntington was 29th and Marian came in 13th.

Goshen is at the C300 Western Shootout this weekend at Royal Pin - Western in Indianapolis. They compete on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12.
