Spidell places second individually as Maple Leafs compete at Boilermaker Classic

Women place third, men come in 15th

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Goshen bowling teams competed at the Boilermaker Classic on Saturday, where the women finished third of nine teams and the men came in 15th of 17. Jessica Spidell placed second out of 64 individually for the women.

Women - 3rd of 9
The women were in third place after both the first and second regular games, but they fell to fifth after the third game. Now 42 pins behind Grace and 108 behind Southeastern Illinois College, the Maple Leafs rebounded with a strong fourth game to move up to second placing, passing Purdue in the process as well. Goshen's five varsity competitors averaged a score of 170.8 pins during that game, not as high as their 171.7 average in game three, but significantly higher than their scores across the other three games. They averaged 153.4 in game one, 158.7 in game two and 155.5 in the fifth and final game. Purdue passed Goshen in the fifth game, resulting in a third place finish overall for the Leafs.

Jessica Spidell competed on Goshen's junior varsity team but placed second of 64 competitors with 928 pins and a 185.6 average. She had a score of 216 in the third game, which is her career-best game score. Her highest score across her 39 games last year was a 191. Rebekah Muzyk came in tenth with 832 pins and a 166.4 average, slightly improving her season average. Kaylee McNab was 13th (784 pins, 156.8 average), Guliana Castiglione came in 28th (674 pins, 168.5 average over four games) Bailey Friars placed 32nd (646 pins, 161.5 average over four games) and Lexie Strong was 34th (629 pins, 157.3 average over four games).

Representing the JV team, Lily Kelley placed 15th, Kami Kimes was 23rd, Samantha Bean came in 24th and Alison Rudolph finished 26th. Kimes and Rudolph had season-high game scores of 162 and 137, respectively.
 
Men - 15th of 17
The men were in 14th through game one and up to 13th after game two. They dropped to 15th after the third game and stayed in that position for the rest of the day.

There were just five individuals representing the Maple Leafs on the men's side. Nash Morgan was the top finisher, coming in 52nd of 142. The freshman bowled a 216 in the second game, a new season-high. He had a score of 843 over the five games for a 168.6 average. His season average over eight games this year bumped up to 160.0.

Thomas Podlesny came in 63rd (782 pins, 156.4 average) and Andrew Jackson was right behind in 64th (780 pins, 156.0 average). Da'Veon Welch finished in 72nd place (740 pins, 148.0 average) and Danek Szajner rounded out the group in 91st (654 pins, 130.8 average). Like Morgan, Podlesny also had a new season-high game score, with a 214 in game two.

League competition is up next for the Maple Leafs. Goshen competes at Crossroads League #1 on Friday, December 5 and Crossroads League #2 on Saturday, December 6. The men bowl at EZ Bowl in Bluffton, Indiana on Friday and the women are at Crest Lanes in Marion, Indiana that day. They switch sites on Saturday, with the men at Crest Lanes and the women at EZ Bowl.
