Leafs bowl strong in baker games at Leatherneck Classic, McNab and Bressert lead in regular games

The women jumped five spots on day two, the men moved up three

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Goshen bowling teams competed this weekend at the Leatherneck Classic in Rockford, Illinois. With both teams improving in the baker games from the regular games on Saturday, the women came in 13th of 28 teams and the men placed 29th of 39. 

Women - 13th of 28
The Maple Leafs were in 19th after their first regular game on Saturday, then moved up to 18th, fell to 20th, up to 19th again and finished the day in 18th after a power outage caused a delay. Freshman Kaylee McNab was Goshen's top performer, coming in 22nd out of 249 bowlers. She totaled 942 pins through five games, averaging a score of 188.4 per game. She bowled a score of at least 174 in all five of her games, and her 223 score in game two was a season high. McNab improved her season average from 158.4 pins per game to 169.9.

Guliana Castiglione came in 144th, averaging 165.3 pins over four games. Bailey Friars was just one spot behind with an average of 165.0 across four games. Friars saved her best game for last, posting a score of 225 in the final game of the day, beating her career game high score of 205 from last season. Rebekah Muzyk was close behind in 148th, averaging 161.0 over four games played. Kaidance Gates was 184th and had 501 pins in three games.

The Leafs stayed steady in 18th after the first set of baker games on Sunday but bumped up three spots to 15th after the second set. They were in 16th after the third set and up another three spots to 13th after the fourth and final set. While the team finished with their highest position, they were five spots out from making the bracket. Governors State had the final position with 7,208 total pins, while Goshen finished with 6,961.

Men - 29th of 39
The men started in 37th after game one on Saturday, then went up to 34th after game two and 28th after the third. At the end of game four, the Leafs had dropped to 33rd and finished day one in 32nd place. Nik Bressert led the charge by finishing in 119th of 457 bowlers individually. With a score of 920 over five games, he averaged 184.0 pins per game and improved his season average by nearly five pins per game. His score of 207 in game three topped his season high game score of 186 from the first game of the C300 Western Shootout.

Brendan Riley came in 139th place with a score of 890 and an average of 178.0 pins per game. Blake Fisher was right behind in 141st with 884 total pins and an average of 176.8. Riley, Bressert and Fisher are the top three Maple Leafs in total pins this season. Freshman Adam Snyder was in 240th place, averaging 178.3 pins per game over three games. Hayden Grindle averaged 150.7 pins across three games, coming in 356th.

On Sunday, Goshen started the day strong by jumping three spots after the first set of baker games. They maintained that position in 29th place for the remaining three sets, finishing with 7,053 total pins.

There were no other Crossroads League schools at the event. The men are currently ranked 120th in the USBC online team ranking system and the women are 70th.

Goshen is at the Boilermaker Classic next Saturday, November 15 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
