GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's volleyball team lost to Governors State in three sets on Saturday night, as the visitors improved their record this year to 11-3. The Jaguars won 25-15, 28-26, 25-22.
The first set was a one-sided affair, with Governors State posting 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage as the Leafs had seven kills and a -.034 hitting percentage. Goshen had a lead for a majority of the second set, but the Jaguars scored two in a row after Goshen led 23-22. Goshen scored the next two to get their own set point, but the visitors responded with two more.
Ben Koop had a kill to tie it 26-26, but Governors State won two points to take the set 28-26.
Goshen had a 5-0 run with
Igor Sapucaia serving in the third set to take a 19-17 lead but the Jaguars scored eight of the final 11 points to come out on top. Goshen wasn't far behind in the kills, assists and digs categories but Governors State did much better in blocks and aces.
Ben Koop had a double-double with 12 kills and ten digs.
Sawyer Frystak had 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Igor Sapucaia had 28 assists while
Andrea Biffi and Frystak had four block assists each.
Avery Laforce had the team's lone ace.
Goshen returns back to WHAC play on Tuesday, February 18, at 7:00 pm on the road at Siena Heights.
