MEMPHIS, Tenn. - With Saturday's matches rained out, the Goshen tennis teams wrapped up their matches in Tennessee on Friday. The women beat Texas A&M-Texarkana 4-3 and lost to Christian Brothers 3-4. The men beat Texas A&M-Texarkana 5-2 and lost to Christian Brothers 2-5.
Women
The women won the doubles point against Texas A&M-Texarkana with wins from
Blanka Bodo and
Sara Nino at #1 and from
Uliana Dotsenko and
Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan at #2. Goshen's singles wins came from Bodo, Nino and Otin O'Callaghan.
The same doubles pairs took the wins against Christian Brothers, giving the Leafs a 1-0 advantage. However, Goshen's only singles wins came at #1 and #2 from Bodo and Dotsenko. Bodo, Dotsenko and Nino finished the Tennessee trip going 2-1 in singles. The same three and Otin O'Callaghan went 2-1 in doubles as well.
Men
The men won at #2 and #3 doubles against Texas A&M-Texarkana with the teams of
Timo Novak and
Denis Stanculov and
Bruno Ferrera and
Pedro Scattolon. Then, they had singles wins from Novak, Ferrera, Scattolon and
Matija Margetic.
Goshen lost three close matchups in doubles against Christian Brothers.
Filippo Gallo won at #1 singles and Scattolon got the victory at #5 singles. Scattolon finished the trip with a 2-1 doubles and 2-0 singles record. He is now 3-6 in doubles and 7-5 in singles this season - tied for the third-most singles wins on the team. Gallo, Margetic, Novak and Ferrera all posted 2-1 singles records in Tennessee.
The women face Spring Arbor and Saint Mary's College in St. Joseph, Michigan on February 21. The men face Hillsdale College on February 22 at the Warsaw Racquet Club at 12:30 pm.
