Game Recap: Baseball | | Justin DeWeese

Maple Leafs fall to Wildcats

Dambruck hit his second home run in a span of three games

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen baseball team ended their series with Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday, a pair of makeup games that were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday but were postponed due to the real feel temperature. IWU won 23-2 in game one and 16-0 in game two.

Game One
Indiana Wesleyan scored in every inning of the first game, with five runs or more in three of the innings. Goshen had six errors.

There were a couple bright spots over the last two and a half innings for the Leafs. With runners at first and third, a balk resulted in Goshen's first run of the day in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Justin Dambruck got Goshen's first hit in the game on a home run to right field. Fernando Marte Santana had a single later in the inning. Joshua Rubio led off the seventh inning with a double. Aaron Matthews threw the last two innings, allowing one earned run and striking out two while walking one.

Jarrett Willoughby had the loss, allowing four earned runs in the first inning and a third. Joshua Rubio finished 1-1 with the double and two walks.

Game Two
The Leafs had another three hits in game two but no runs to show for it. Goshen starter Giacomo Padilla held IWU scoreless in the first inning but lasted just two thirds of an inning longer, allowing four runs and three earned runs in the second. Axell Espino Montero hit a single in the bottom of the first with one out but was left on base.

Goshen's other hits came from a Joshua Rubio single in the bottom of the third and a Chris Godden single in the bottom of the seventh. Goshen had three walks but ten strikeouts.

Goshen hosts Grace on Friday, March 28, at 1:00 pm.
