NAPPANEE, Ind. - Goshen lost the second and third games of a four-game series with Grace on Saturday after winning game one on Friday night. The Lancers prevailed 10-7 and 10-5. The fourth game of the series will be scheduled at a later date.
Game One
Grace built up a 4-0 lead in the first two innings, and Goshen got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI single off the bat of
Curtis Huffman. After a sac fly made it 5-1, the Leafs scored a run on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout in the fourth to make it 5-3.
Down 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Goshen put up four runs on three hits to take the lead.
Chase Smith hit an RBI single and
Justin Dambruck later scored on a wild pitch. Smith scored after a wild pitch as
Joshua Rubio struck out and
Trent Sillett scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.Â
The lead didn't last long, as the Lancers put up four runs in the top of the eighth and maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
Logan Wilson had the loss - only allowing two hits in 3.2 innings but walking four and giving up four earned runs.
Justin Dambruck went 3-4 with a double and a run, his first three-hit game of the season.
Curtis Huffman had two singles and
Nathaniel Muriel had two stolen bases. Goshen's seven runs came from seven different players.
Game Two
Grace took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but unlike game one, they kept that lead for the rest of the game.
Goshen had five runs on five hits. Two runs were scored on bases loaded walks in the fourth inning.
Fernando Marte Santana scored on a wild pitch in the seventh. Another run in the fourth came when
Axell Espino Montero was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The other came on an RBI groundout in the third inning.
Giacomo Padilla had the loss, allowing six earned runs in three innings. He allowed two hits and five walks while striking out four. Two of Goshen's five hits were doubles, which came from Espino Montero and
Curtis Huffman. The five hits and five runs came from five different players each.
Goshen hosts Huntington on Friday, April 4, at 1:00 pm. Saturday, April 5 against Huntington will be Senior Day.
