VanScoter, McDonald pick up All-League honors after senior seasons

VanScoter set career records for doubles and hits while McDonald did the same for triples

JACKSON, Mich. - Softball seniors Shea VanScoter and Alyssa McDonald earned All-League honors from the Crossroads League, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. VanScoter earned a Second-Team All-Crossroads League nod and made the Crossroads League Gold Glove Team as an outfielder. Alyssa McDonald was chosen as an Honorable Mention All-Crossroads League selection.

VanScoter ranked in the top ten in program history for single-season totals in runs (39, tied for third), home runs (8, tied for fourth), RBIs (38, tied for fifth) and triples (3, tied for ninth). This season she set the program career record for hits with 243 and doubles with 57. She also finished second in program history in runs and home runs, fourth in batting average, stolen bases and RBIs, tied for sixth in wins, seventh in ERA, eighth in walks, ninth in strikeouts thrown, tied for ninth in triples and tied for tenth in innings pitched.

As a fielder this season, VanScoter totaled 64 putouts and 18 assists, all while recording no errors. She was the center fielder for 41 games, a pitcher for 14 games with six starts, and spent one game in left field. VanScoter also led the Crossroads League in saves this year with five.

McDonald hit five triples this year, which tied the single-season program record. She also placed in the single-season top ten lists for runs (39, tied for third), doubles (12, tied for fifth) and stolen bases (18, tied for tenth). With 13 career triples, she beat the previous school record by four. She also finished seventh in runs, RBIs and walks, eighth in hits, ninth in batting average and stolen bases, and tied for tenth in doubles.

Marian had their third-straight sweep of the CL regular season and tournament championships. The Maple Leafs beat the Knights at home earlier in the season. The Player of the Year for the conference was Morgan Yeater of Indiana Wesleyan. Olivia Stunkel (Marian) was Pitcher of the Year, Abby Robakowski (Saint Francis) earned Newcomer of the Year and Tim Averill (Huntington) and Ryan Bolyn (Saint Francis) were selected as Co-Coaches of the Year.
