SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Men's cross country had an absolutely phenomenal outing to the Joe Piane-Notre Dame Invite, setting multiple school records, and picking up their second individual win of the season. Overall, the Leafs placed 11th out of 21 teams, beating out seven NCAA Division I schools, and Jesse Songo remains undefeated in his cross country career as he picked up his second consecutive win this season.

Songo's time of 23:45.5 is 32.7 seconds faster than the previous record, which was set last year by teammate Drew Hogan. Songo also finished more than six seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Duncan Kogei placed 24th out of 172 runners, and his time of 24:37.0 is the eighth-fastest time in program history. Combined with Songo they were also the fastest 1-2 finish in program history.

Hogan placed 42nd, and his time of 24:52.8 now makes him the fourth fastest senior in program history. He also helped to complete the fastest 1-2-3 finish in school history.

Jacob Friesen ran a personal best with a 24:59.6, finishing 51st and slotting in behind Hogan as the fifth fastest senior ever for GC. Similarly, he finished the fastest 1-2-3-4 time for GC as well.

Jesse Bontrager also ran his best even 8k with a time of 26:14.4 and a 138th finish — this was more than a minute faster than his time at Notre Dame last year. He completed the top five as they claimed the school record for best team effort with a time of 124:30, more than a minute faster than a record that he, Friesen, Hogan, and Kogei, along with Mathew Keitany, set last year.

In short, this was almost certainly the fastest day in the history of Goshen men's cross country — now spanning 51 years at GC.

The Maple Leafs are back in action on Friday, Oct. 9 when they will travel to Taylor to compete in the Ray Bullock Invitational. The women are set to run at 4 p.m. and the men at 5 p.m.
