CAMPTON, Ky. - Steven Lopez hit the game winning two-RBI double in extra innings that gave Goshen baseball their first win of the 2026 season. The Leafs defeated Kentucky Christian 6-4 in eight innings. In the second game of the day, Campbellsville took down Goshen 12-1.
Game One
Unlike their recent games, it took a while for the Goshen offense to get into a groove, as Kentucky Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the first off of Goshen starter
Dylan Pearson. Pearson didn't allow any more runs after that, though, going four innings and allowing two earned on three hits and just one walk. In the top of the fifth,
Barron Welsh hit an RBI single to score
AJ Carrasquillo and cut Goshen's lead in half. Just an inning later,
Fernando Marte Santana singled to left and
Aidan Calvey scored to tie the game. Later in the same inning, Welsh hit another RBI single, this time scoring
Dylan Pearson and
Braxton Nagy.
Kenny Ayala took care of Goshen on the mound, pitching the fifth and sixth innings and not giving up any runs on two hits.
AJ Lenn came in for the save in the seventh inning, but the Knights got two runs from an RBI single and a wild pitch. Now in extras, the Leafs started the inning with
Aidan Calvey on second base.
AJ Carrasquillo walked and
Nick Padron singled to load the bases.
Steven Lopez then doubled to center to score Calvey and Carrasquillo. In the bottom half of the inning, Lenn redeemed himself by getting three batters out in a row - two on flyouts and one on a foul tip.
Lenn earned the win, going two innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. He had three strikeouts and one walk. Goshen had eight hits and Welsh went 2-4 with two singles and three RBIs. Lopez went 1-4 with the critical two-RBI double. Pearson had a double as well. Calvey and Carrasquillo scored two runs each.
Game Two
Campbellsville scored multiple runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings of game two. Five of their nine hits went for extra bases. Tate Wischnack was the difference maker for the Tigers, going 3-4 with a double, two home runs, two runs scored and six RBIs. The Leafs managed just two hits - singles from
Fernando Marte Santana and
Nathaniel Muriel. Goshen's lone run came in the top of the seventh when down 12-0 with two outs.
Aidan Calvey reached base on a fielding error and moved to second on a wild pitch. After consecutive strikeouts, Muriel singled to center and Calvey came around from second. A strikeout from the next batter ended the game.
The Maple Leafs used seven pitchers in the game, with starter
Brandon Wright Barron getting the loss. Wright Barron allowed four earned runs on five hits in two innings pitched. Zak Henrick was the most dominant relief pitcher. He allowed no runs and no hits in 1.2 innings.
Goshen faces Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, February 21, at 12:00 pm for a doubleheader down in Columbia, Kentucky. They face off again on Sunday and Monday.
