Leafs win in run-rule, Pilots take second game in extras on a snowy Saturday at the "Sarge"

Game two was tied 0-0 as the teams went into extra innings

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Maple Leafs baseball team picked up a dominant ten-run win in a U.S. Highway 20 Cup matchup with Bethel on Saturday. The Leafs won 11-1 in game one. Game two was tied at 0-0 in the snow as the teams went to extras, before the Pilots won 3-1 after eight innings.

Game One
Brandon Wright Barron had his longest outing on the mound this year, going four innings while allowing no earned runs on four hits. He had three strikeouts and no walks, totaling 69 pitches. His team's offense came through in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Aidan Calvey hit an RBI double to right and Nathan Pinedo and Aidan Calvey scored after a throwing error by the shortstop. Bethel got a run in the fifth to make it 3-1, but Adam Traylor came into the game in a bases loaded jam and got Anthony Cimini to fly out and end the inning. Traylor proceeded to pitch three more innings, allowing no earned runs on just one hit. The longest outing he had up until today was 1.1 innings and he had five innings pitched in total this season.

While the Leafs didn't score in the first three innings, they had at least one run in each of the last five. AJ Carrasquillo, Aidan Calvey, Chris Godden, Nathaniel Muriel, Nick Padron and Dylan Pearson all hit RBI singles. Calvey also scored on a throwing error and walked in a run with the bases loaded.

Traylor earned the win and is now 1-1 this season. Calvey finished 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs. He had one extra-base hit, two walks and a stolen base. Godden hit a pair of singles and scored twice. Padron and Muriel each had two runs as well. Padron also had two walks and stolen bases. The six stolen bases for the Maple Leafs in the game are their most since April 11 last season in a 5-1 win at Taylor.

Game Two
The second game was a pitcher's duel between Logan Wilson and Bethel's Adam Walters. Wilson had allowed just two hits and no earned runs through seven innings. The snow began to fall in the fifth inning, but once the teams got to the eighth inning still tied at 0-0, the snow started coming down harder.

Goshen had a chance to win in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded. The Pilots hit a single and a double to start extra innings in the eight and had runners at the corners. After an intentional walk to load the bases, another walk put the first run for either team on the scoreboard. A fielder's choice made it 2-0, and after a pitching change, the Pilots scored one last run on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

The Leafs landed two successful bunts on the snow-covered ground in the bottom half of the inning to put two runners on. They advanced another 90 feet each after Dylan Pearson's sacrifice bunt, but a popup bunt gave GC two outs in the inning. Nick Padron scored on a throwing error and a strikeout ended the game for the Leafs. Bethel prevailed 3-1.

Logan Wilson allowed just one earned run in 7.1 innings but had the loss. He allowed three total runs, four hits, three walks and threw seven strikeouts. Zak Henrich allowed no hits or runs in his 0.2 innings. Padron had two of Goshen's four hits and scored the lone run. AJ Carrasquillo and Barron Welsh hit singles. Chris Godden walked twice.

Goshen is at Indiana Wesleyan on Friday, March 20.
