SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Goshen men's volleyball lost to Lawrence Tech on Friday night, falling 25-16, 25-16, 26-24 at Don Ridler Fieldhouse. The Maple Leafs were unable to break through in the opening two sets but pushed the final set past regulation before Lawrence Tech closed out the sweep.
The first two sets followed a similar pattern. Goshen stayed within range early, but both sets ended 25-16 after late attack errors. The third set was Goshen's best stretch of the night, and it included the team's first lead in a set since being up 1-0 in the first when the Maple Leafs moved in front 23-22. That late surge gave Goshen a chance to extend the match after trailing throughout the evening.
Goshen eventually forced the score even at 24-24, but Lawrence Tech answered at the finish. Mario Cid delivered a kill for match point at 25-24, and the next rally ended on a Goshen attack error by
Mathis Doladille, sealing the 26-24 final set. The Maple Leafs totaled seven team blocks and 25 digs.Â
Ben Koop helped fuel the rally and finished with six kills and an ace while
Bruno Barac added seven kills on 13 attempts with just one error, plus five digs and two block assists.
Lawrence Tech's balance and steadier execution proved decisive. The Blue Devils controlled much of the match behind a more efficient attack, finishing with 38 kills and a .256 hitting percentage. Goshen had 26 kills and hit .038 while also committing 23 attack errors.
Goshen is at Rochester Christian on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
