Tennis teams lose on the road to ranked Holy Cross squads

Fonte and Stoltzfus win both their singles and doubles matches

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Goshen tennis teams lost on the road to a pair of challenging, ranked foes in Holy Cross College. The women lost to the #11 ranked Saints team 3-4, while the men lost to the #7 Saints, 2-5.

Women - Goshen 3, Holy Cross 4
Vishmi Serasinghe and Marin Kawano won 6-4 in #1 singles and Maria Clara Fonte and Blanka Bodo won by the same score in #2 doubles. Fonte is now 12-3 in doubles and Bodo is 12-4 this season. Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan and Sara Nino won #3 doubles by forfeit, so Goshen swept the doubles matches.

Nino won #6 singles by forfeit. Otherwise, Goshen's only other singles point came from Fonte at #4 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Fonte is 9-4 in singles matches this year. The Saints won the other singles matches in straight sets.

Men - Goshen 2, Holy Cross 5
In doubles, Iago Ciucio and Garrett Stoltzfus continued their tremendous season by holding the Holy Cross duo to winning just three games. The Goshen pair is 10-2 in doubles this year. Holy Cross won at #1 and #3 doubles to win the team point.

Timo Novak earned a point for Goshen at #2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 13-3 on the year. Garrett Stoltzfus fought back after losing the first set at #4 singles 4-6. He won the next set 6-4 and took the tiebreak 10-8. Holy Cross won the remaining four singles matches and won 5-2 over the Maple Leafs.

Goshen heads to Missouri next weekend to face William Woods on Friday, March 13, at noon eastern. The next day, they'll face Missouri Baptist at 11:00 am eastern.
