GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen came out strong in the first set against Indiana Tech, who is receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll. And while the Leafs were strong at the net, the Warriors had more aces and fewer service errors to win in four sets. Indiana Tech won 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.
Goshen had just two attack errors in the first set, compared to ten for the visitors - who entered the match with a 19-8 record and 13-3 record in the WHAC. GC used a 5-0 run to go up 17-11, which made the difference in a six-point, 25-19 win. The Leafs had a .385 hitting percentage in the set.
The Warriors answered with a dominant second set, hitting .344 while holding the Leafs to .080. They won by seven, and then went on to win a back-and-forth third set 25-22. The Leafs had just three attack errors in that set, but Indiana Tech had five more kills. Indiana Tech won the fourth set by a 25-20 score.
Goshen led in hitting percentage and blocks - the trio of
Sawyer Frystak,
Ryan Kabrich and
Mathis Doladille provided there. Indiana Tech led in kills, aces, assists and digs.
Ben Koop had 15 kills, a .345 hitting percentage, seven digs, two block assists and a solo block.
Sawyer Frystak had 13 kills, a .370 hitting percentage, nine block assists and a solo block.
Bruno Barac had seven kills and nine digs.
Andrea Biffi had eight digs and
Nash Hubick added six with 34 assists. Goshen had two aces and 14 service errors.
The Leafs host Defiance on Saturday at 2:00 pm for Senior Day.
