GOSHEN, Ind. - In a single nine-inning nonconference game sandwiched between a pair of conference series, Grace Christian came in and defeated Goshen 15-3 on Tuesday.
Owen Tyers hit a pinch-hit home run for the Leafs.
The Tigers scored three in the first and three more in the second to take a 6-0 advantage early on. The score stayed the same with
Drew Sanford on in relief, until Grace Christian added five runs in the fifth. A two-run homer made it 11-0.
Joel Berkholz hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, scoring
Jackson Whittington, to make it 11-1. The Maple Leafs added a second run in the sixth from an RBI single by
Nathan Pinedo.
Aidan Calvey scored on the play. Tyers' home run to center field was hit in the bottom of the seventh on a 1-1 count with two outs. After the third out, the game ended by run rule. Grace Christian won 15-3.
Lance Wilson had the loss after allowing five earned in 1.1 innings. Goshen had seven hits but allowed 18.
Nathan Pinedo had two singles.
Tommy O'Connor and
Barron Welsh each had doubles.
Owen Tyers provided the home run and
Chase Smith and
Aidan Calvey each added singles.
