GOSHEN, Ind. - Women's tennis had a dominant 4-0 win over Grace at home in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals on Monday afternoon at the Stan King Tennis Complex. After winning the doubles point, Goshen needed to finish just three singles matches in order to secure the four points needed to win and advance to the semifinals.
"We beat them pretty solid in the regular season," said head coach
Jon Bemisderfer, "and to follow it up with this type of win when it counted shows the depth of the team. We have just progressively played a little bit better every single match."
The Maple Leafs didn't need to finish their 4-2 lead at #1 doubles, as
Uliana Dotsenko and
Marin Kawano earned a quick 6-0 win at #2 doubles and
Vishmi Serasinghe and
Sara Nino followed it up with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles. Dotsenko and Kawano have won eight consecutive doubles matches while Serasinghe and Nino have won six straight.
Serasinghe was the first to finish in singles, extending her singles win streak to 11 matches with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Blanka Bodo followed it up with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win to improve to 18-7 in singles matches this year. Kawano sealed the deal with her 6-1, 6-3 win at #5 singles - earning the fourth point for the Maple Leafs and picking up a Crossroads League Quarterfinals win.
Goshen was the two seed in the matchup and Grace was the seven seed. This was the second year in a row that the teams met in the quarterfinals. Last season, the Leafs were the six seed and the Lancers were the three seed. Grace won in Winona Lake 7-0.
The semifinal and championship round will be hosted at Indiana Wesleyan University. Goshen will play the winner of Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 22. The championship will take place on Friday, April 24, at 10:30 am.
