GOSHEN, Ind. - Chase Smith's walk-off two-run home run earned Goshen a 7-6 game one win in a back and forth contest on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won the second game 9-5. Goshen seniors

Game One
The Leafs struck first in the first inning with
Chase Smith scoring from third on a wild pitch. Senior
AJ Lenn, Goshen's starting pitcher, didn't allow any runs through the first five innings. The Cougars scored twice in the sixth, but Goshen immediately retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Senior
Fernando Marte Santana singled down the left field line, scoring
Chris Godden and
Barron Welsh in the process.
GC added a cushion to their lead in the next inning. This time it was
Aidan Calvey who sent a single down the left field line, and
Nick Padron and
Nasir Baldwin scored to make it 5-2.
AJ Lenn finished his outing by going 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and three hits. He had six strikeouts and three walks. His 115 pitches were the most in any of his career collegiate outings, and it came in his final one.
Despite no hits in the eighth inning, USF scored twice more to close the gap to one run. In the ninth, they took the lead for the first time since the sixth inning and led 6-5.
Nathan Pinedo started Goshen's bottom of the ninth with a walk. And with one out on a 3-1 count,
Chase Smith sent a two-run shot over the right field wall, and the Maple Leafs won 7-6 on a walk-off win.
Senior
Lance Wilson earned the win, his first of the season, after throwing the last 1.2 innings. He allowed no earned runs and two total runs on two hits.
Chase Smith,
Aidan Calvey and
Fernando Marte Santana had two RBIs each. Calvey was 2-2 with two walks in addition to his two singles.
Game Two
After the senior recognition between games, Saint Francis came back from their defeat quickly. They scored five runs in the first inning and led 5-1 after the first.
Troy Griffin hit an RBI single to score
Chase Smith for Goshen's first-inning run.
While the Leafs had just as many runs as the Cougars for the remaining six innings, the first inning proved to be the difference maker as the Cougars won 9-5.
Troy Griffin hit another RBI single in the seventh.
Landen Hirsch had an RBI single in the fourth for Goshen and
Chase Smith had a two-RBI triple later on in the fourth inning.
Logan Wilson had the loss for the Maple Leafs as the starter.
Adam Traylor threw three innings, allowing no earned runs and just two hits. He had three strikeouts and no walks allowed.
Aaron Matthews allowed no earned runs in 1.2 innings and
Baylor Orcutt had no earned runs in one inning of action. Along with
Braylon Pond, the Goshen relievers combined for nine strikeouts and no walks.
Troy Griffin had two singles, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base.
Fernando Marte Santana had a double and
Chase Smith had a triple with a pair of RBIs and walks. Goshen finished with a 6-42 overall record and a 5-31 record in the Crossroads League.

Yanick Loiselle! Yanick is being escorted by his mother Danielle, his stepfather Moe, his father Jules, and his stepmother Jennifer. Yanick is a physical education major and plans on continuing his career in electrical sales upon graduating from Goshen College. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Yanick has been an awesome guy to have in this program. He connected with his teammates well and has a great sense of humor. From the way he carries himself to stepping into a leadership role in his final season, Yanick has been a pleasure to have around as a coach. We wish Yanick the best in his future endeavors!" Thank you Yanick!
Coming up next is #38,
Owen Tyers! Owen is being escorted by his parents Keith and Cassandra, his sister Julianna, and his grandfather John. Owen will be graduating with a degree in psychology and plans on taking time to work, train, and prepare for a master's in clinical psychology. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Owen's been the ultimate team player since transferring in two seasons ago. Not only has he worked his tail off since setting foot on campus, but the impact he's made on his teammates and coaches will be something we all remember. Owen was also eager to step into leadership roles since starting at GC. There are not many players who carry themselves like Owen, and it's been a pleasure to coach him." Thank you Owen!
Next is #5, Fernando Marte! Fernando is being escorted by some of his GC teammates. He is a business major and would like to find a job after college where he feels comfortable and can gain valuable experience. His goal is to learn and grow professionally so that in the future he can be prepared to start his own business in whatever field he chooses. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Fernando has been a pleasure to coach and brought a unique personality to our team. His teammates fed off of his energy, and he has produced some key moments in his career. Fernando's love of the game and contagious energy will be missed by his coaches and teammates. We wish you the best moving forward!" Thank you Fernando!

Hunter Oborn! Hunter is being escorted by his parents Carmen and Shaun, his brother Thom, and his grandma Patty. He is an exercise science major and plans on attending grad school to pursue a career in physical therapy. Coach Stoltzfus says, "The strides that Hunter has made in his final season have been a pleasure to be a part of. His development as a player and student is something his teammates and coaches will remember. Hunter's personality and sense of humor brought many memorable moments to the Maple Leafs during his career, and I look forward to what's in store for him after college. Hunter, we wish you the best!" Thank you Hunter!

AJ Lenn! AJ is being escorted by his parents Linda and Jim, his brother Kyler and his sister-in-law Heather. AJ is a business major with a sport management minor. After graduation, he plans to go back to school to earn his MBA and eventually secure a marketing management position while also coaching a little on the side. Coach Stoltzfus says, "AJ has been awesome to have in this program for four years. His dedication to improving as a student-athlete, his bulldog mindset and always wanting the ball, and his leadership of this team have made him a pleasure to coach the last four seasons. AJ's sense of humor and his work ethic will be something we'll always remember. AJ, we wish you the best moving forward!" Thank you AJ!

Steven Lopez! Steven is being escorted by his parents Claudia and Demian Lopez. He is a sport management major with a minor in business. After Goshen, he will go back home to Pomona, California, to work for his dad at his electrical sales company, Lopez Electric. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Steven has been a pleasure to coach in his career with the Leafs. Steven had the privilege of playing alongside his brother David for two seasons, with both bringing great attitudes to the ball field every day. While Steven missed all of last season with an injury, his work ethic to get back to full strength never let up. Steven, your work ethic, attitude, and sense of humor have been a pleasure to be a part of, and as coaches, we wish you continued success after graduation." Thank you Steven!

Lance Wilson! Lance is being escorted by his parents Eric and Kathy and his brother Eli. He is a history major and plans to work in the life and health insurance business while finding ways to stay close to the game of baseball. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Lance brought a bulldog mindset to this team since day one. From converting from a catcher to a pitcher in his first season, Lance worked his tail off day in and day out. He brought his 100% effort to every practice, and his contagious energy gave the Maple Leafs plenty of memorable moments during his time with the team. Lance stepped up as a leader for our pitching staff this season and brought guys along with him. His love for Philly sports will definitely be missed by his coaches, or at least just Coach Brad. Lance, we all wish you success in your next stages of life!" Thank you Lance!

Chris Godden! Chris is being escorted by his parents Angela and George and his brothers Dustin and Mitchell. He is an exercise science major and plans to get his master's degree in physical therapy back in Canada. Coach Stoltzfus says, "Chris has been one of our hardest workers on the team since he joined the program his freshman year. He's been versatile, gritty, and a leader for this team. Chris has always been a player who's hard to take out of a lineup because of his will to win and to play through some pain. Chris, all of us coaches wish you the best moving forward, and you will be missed!" Thank you Chris!
