GOSHEN, Ind. - In the first home contest at the newly named and renovated Stan King Tennis Complex, with Stan King in attendance himself, Goshen faced off against Huntington in a matchup of two teams that were 5-0 in conference. The #10 Foresters defeated the Maple Leafs, who are receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll, 7-0.
All three doubles matches were close, but the Foresters took the doubles point by winning two of the three. Goshen's win came at #3 doubles, as
Filippo Gallo and
Paulo Santiago won 6-4. Huntington's wins at #1 and #2 doubles were both 7-5.
The Foresters went on to win all six singles matches.
Iago Ciucio forced a super tiebreak in #1 singles after winning the first set 6-4. Julian Tantera won the next set 6-2 and then 10-4.
Paulo Santiago pushed both of his sets to extended games before falling 7-6(10), 7-6(11).Â
Timo Novak had a narrow first set loss at 7-5 before losing the next set 6-1.
Filippo Gallo lost 6-4, 6-4 in #6 singles.
Gallo and Santiago have won seven straight doubles matches - Gallo is 15-4 this season and Santiago is 14-3.
The women host Huntington on Wednesday, April 8, at 4:00 pm. The Leafs host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, April 11, at 2:00 pm.
