GOSHEN, Ind. - Women's tennis played their first match at the newly named Stan King Tennis Complex on Wednesday evening and came away with a 5-2 win over Huntington. The Leafs are now 5-1 in the Crossroads League.
Goshen started off with a 1-0 advantage after taking two of the three doubles matches.
Sara Nino and
Vishmi Serasinghe rolled to a 6-0 win in #3 doubles and
Uliana Dotsenko and
Marin Kawano had a controlling 6-1 win at #2 doubles. Dotsenko and Kawano have won five straight doubles matches and Nino and Serasinghe have won four in a row.
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets, and the Leafs won three of them. Dotsenko won at #1 singles 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Serasinghe got stronger as her match went on - winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-0. Nino outlasted her opponent in a tight three-setter, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (9).
Maria Clara Fonte had a staright-set win at #3, prevailing 7-5, 6-1. Serasinghe has yet to lose a conference singles match this season, and she has won seven singles matches in a row. Nino has won five straight and Fonte's current streak is at four.
Goshen is still receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches poll, which was released earlier on Wednesday. The Leafs (10-6, 5-1 CL) host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, April 11, at 2:00 pm.
