GOSHEN, Ind. — Jo'Mani Thomas scored 18 points off the bench and Lynnia Noel added a season-high 17, but the Goshen College women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Saturday afternoon in a 74-73 defeat at the hands of no. 25 Lawrence Technological University.

Hali Butler hit a floater from the right side of the free-throw lane with 10 seconds remaining to give the Blue Devils the lead. After advancing the ball up the floor, Goshen had an inbound play from the baseline with :03.5 to play, but the go-ahead shot missed and the visitors escaped with the win.

Lawrence Tech (8-1, 6-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) was ahead 29-20 at the quarter and 45-38 at the half before Goshen (11-2, 3-0 Crossroads League) opened the third stanza on a 12-1 run. The visitors re-took the lead early in the fourth and led by as many as six with 2:47 remaining. But Lynnia Noel sank two free throws, Jo'Mani Thomas converted a three-point play and another Thomas field goal put the Leafs up 73-72 with 38 seconds left.

On the ensuing Lawrence Tech possession, Sophia Sears appeared to come away with the steal, but the officials conferred and ruled the ball had been kicked, leaving the door open for Butler's bucket.

Gabby Williams scored 13 points to go along with a game-high seven rebounds for the Maple Leafs. Tyra Carver added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and Sears scored nine with four assists, Butler's 18 points and six rebounds paced LTU in both categories.

Each defense forced 19 turnovers and some low shooting percentages: Lawrence Tech went 12-for-24 (50 percent) from the foul line and Goshen shot 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from three-point range. The teams also combined for 37 personal fouls.

The game was the first of five in a row for the Maple Leafs against teams who are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Coaches Poll: following a Christmas layoff, Goshen will travel to the St. Xavier Christmas Classic in Chicago, facing Robert Morris at 4 p.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 28, and top-ranked St. Xavier at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29.
