Four score in double figures against top-ranked IWU

MARION, Ind. — Demarkus Stuckey scored 15 points and Eli Gingerich added 12 to lead four Goshen College men's basketball players in double figures Saturday afternoon as Indiana Wesleyan University topped the Maple Leafs 86-58 in Luckey Arena.

The Maple Leafs sank 20 of their 35 tries (57.1 percent) from inside the 3-point arc, with Alhassan Barrie going 5-for-7 and Gingerich 4-for-4 on 2-point attempts. Stuckey also led the team with 2 assists and 2 steals while Barrie, Austin Branagan and Tamaje Blackwell recorded a team-high 4 rebounds apiece.

Indiana Wesleyan (11-1, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the NAIA Division II coaches poll, got a game-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from Evan Maxwell; Seth Maxwell missed that scoring total by 3 points, but pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Trevor Waite and Canaan Coffey each drained three 3-pointers for 13 and 9 points, respectively.

The Wildcats shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) on their home floor and 45.7 percent (11-for-24) from long range. They retrieved 47 rebounds, getting 6 each from Coffey, Jonathan Mpanzu and Joel Okafor.

Goshen (1-9, 0-3) took the first lead of the game on a Gingerich basket off Colton Noel's steal 48 seconds after tip-off. Evan Maxwell scored IWU's first eight points as the hosts led 20-16 at the midpoint of the first half. The Maple Leafs finished with 10 steals to IWU's 6 and forced 18 turnovers while giving the ball up 11 times.

Up Next: The Maple Leafs come home for the first of four December games in Gunden Gymnasium, a Wednesday night tilt with their closest Crossroads League foe in Grace College. Goshen will square off with the Lancers at 8 p.m. following a women's game at 6 p.m.
