Noel's 20-point effort tops Leaf scoring column

GOSHEN, Ind. — Colton Noel's 20 points and 5 rebounds both paced the Goshen College men's basketball team in the 131st edition of its rivalry with Grace College, which ended with the Lancers winning 83-74 in Gunden Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Noel shot 8-for-12 in 24 minutes and added 4 free throws and an assist on his way to a new career high. Demarkus Stuckey added 14 points and Alhassan Barrie and Patryck Ostrowski each scored 8 off the bench.

The Maple Leafs (1-10, 0-4 Crossroads League) led 39-38 at intermission behind 14-of-27 shooting (51.9 percent) and five 3-pointers. Austin Branagan finished with 3 triples for 9 points and Stuckey converted twice from long range.

Grace (9-3, 1-3) got 33 points from Haden Deaton and outscored Goshen 45-35 after halftime. Logan Godfrey, who matched Deaton with a game-high 9 rebounds, scored 19 points. Charlie Warner and Braxton Linville added 7 boards each: Warner was a third Lancer in double figures with 14 points while Linville recorded a game-high 7 assists.

The Maple Leaf defense forced 18 turnovers, getting 3 steals from Branagan and 2 from Stuckey, while Grace finished with an edge on the glass behind 18 offensive rebounds.

Eli Gingerich played a team-high 32 minutes for Goshen, going 3-for-3 at the foul line to go with 3 assists, while Warner went the distance and Deaton played 35 minutes for Grace.

The game raised $650 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation on Movember Night. According to the National Cancer Institute, prostate cancer is the second-most-common type of cancer among American men, with 1 in 9 men being affected by it at some point during their life.

Up Next: Goshen returns to the road for a Saturday matchup with Taylor University at Odle Arena in Upland. The final conference game before Christmas break starts at 7 p.m. after the women play at 5.
