Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — Jimmelle Ramkissoon's penalty kick with 4:22 until halftime opened the scoring and three more Goshen College goals after the intermission opened the floodgates in a 4-0 men's soccer win over Siena Heights University on Wednesday at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.
The Saints (3-3) took nine of the 16 shots before halftime, but a quartet of saves by Maple Leaf netminder Tyler Born kept goose eggs on the scoreboard until Ramkissoon stepped to the spot. Siena Heights keeper Tyler Kozan, who made three saves of his own, guessed left but Ramkissoon beat him to match Stuart Aeschliman's team-high four goals this season.
Lucas Bontreger joined the fray atop the leaderboard by scoring twice for his first multi-goal game in college. The first strike came seven minutes after halftime when a through ball from Ramkissoon eluded a defender and found Lucas Vilela on the right side of the box. Vilela worked the ball back to Bontreger, who slotted it inside the post for a 2-0 lead. Eleven minutes and change later, he found the same post on a cross from Flavio Cruz, who registered his first career assist.
Spencer Aeschliman finished the scoring with 18:34 to play on an assist from Uriel Macias.
The Saints took three tries to tie the score: Ethan Francois-Ravalier blocked the first in the 43rd while Born saved one in the 51st and watched a follow-up shot go wide. SHU's lone shot in a 2-0 game missed high less than a minute after Bontreger's first goal.
Siena Heights' five shots on goal came from five players. Bontreger, Ari Benjamin and SHU's Justin Gray each took three shots; Goshen's Nate Nussbaum was the only player other than Bontreger with multiple shots on goal.
As each team wound down its non-conference slate, both sides substituted liberally: 23 Maple Leafs and 31 Saints saw action.
Notable Numbers:
0: Wednesday was the first shutout of the Maple Leaf season and of Born's career.
5: Goshen has won five straight head-to-head meetings with Siena Heights after the Saints won four in a row from 2010-13. Bontreger is the first Maple Leaf with a two-goal game during the win streak. Aeschliman has also scored twice, including a goal in 2015, while Andrew Snyder ('17) is the only GC player with multiple assists over that stretch.
17: Ramkissoon's goal was Goshen's 17th of the season, surpassing the team total from both 2015 and 2016 in the team's seventh game. (The team now has 20 goals, but no. 17 was the one that surpassed the previous squads.)
29: The teams combined for 29 second-half substitutions. After Bontreger's first goal, eight sets of fresh legs entered the pitch simultaneously.

GC head coach Arron Patrick
"Tonight was definitely a tale of two halves. In the first half SHU brought much more intensity and effort than we did. Our lack of movement contributed to SHU having a lot more of the ball than we would have liked. We did a poor job of passing men on and SHU rotated well in the middle. But other than a couple silly moments in possession at the back, SHU didn't really create any chances. We still had a few openings we would like to have back, but going in 1-0 at half was a huge bonus after how lethargic we were. Jimmy took the penalty really well, and sometimes our sport is cruel and tonight in the first half we were the right side of that.
"In the second half, we changed tactically and it made a huge difference. We really dominated the middle of the pitch, and our movement up top got us in behind them time and time again. We scored some excellent goals and, truth be told, there should have been more.
"Depth was very important again tonight as we pulled a few guys early in the second half with some niggles, but the guys coming in were great. I love that we played every available player and that they all contributed to our first clean sheet. I know there will be many more to come, but it's great everyone was a part of our first.
"We are a team that doesn't really need to play at our best to score goals, but we need to do much more this Saturday if we want another positive result. IU East will be a much improved side from last year and it will be a very tough match. We must start with the right attitude and that will be our focus this week."
Up Next: Saturday, 7 p.m. — IU East at Goshen.
