Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Alhassan Barrie led all players with 10 rebounds and Ryan Mansbarger paced the Goshen College men's basketball team with 9 points, leading the team for the first time in his career, as the Maple Leafs lost 86-56 at fifth-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday.
Austin Jones led all scorers with 20 points for Mount Vernon Nazarene (18-3, 6-3 Crossroads League), which defended its home floor after shooting 57.4 percent overall and 45 percent from 3-point range. Jordi Mas, Jevon Knox and Jeremiah Roberts all scored 12 points apiece for the Cougars, who led 49-27 at halftime.
Mansbarger accumulated his team-high scoring total by draining 3 of the 4 shots he took, all from long distance, in 13 minutes off the bench. Tanner Camp was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor, including his first career triple, for 7 points in his first career start. Barrie, Colton Noel and Dillon McCullough each chipped in 6 points.
MVNU tickled the twine 18 times in 24 attempts before halftime, including a 7-for-11 clip from the perimeter, and finished with 25 assists on 31 made field goals. Jacob Paul led all players with 9 assists and was one of four Cougars to post a perfect night at the foul line.
The Maple Leafs limited their hosts to 5 offensive rebounds in the contest as Barrie cleaned the defensive glass 7 times. Roberts and Goshen's Ben Cotton tied for the game high with 2 steals apiece.
Goshen returns to action Saturday against Spring Arbor University in Gunden Gymnasium. The game is the opener of a two-game homestand for the Maple Leafs and the latter half of a doubleheader, with the women's contest starting at 1.
