Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. — Graysen Cockerham scored a game-high 12 points to go with 6 rebounds and 5 steals Tuesday night as the Goshen College women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season in a 67-55 victory over Holy Cross College at Gunden Gymnasium.

Mariah Roe added 10 points and Janara Flowers had 9 for the Maple Leafs (1-1), who led 18-10 at the quarter and never trailed again. TaNiece Chapman added a game-high 11 rebounds and three players (Cockerham, Keyaira Murff and Suzanna Yoder) chipped in 6 apiece.

A swarming Goshen defense forced the Saints (0-2) into 33 turnovers, including 20 steals. Ten of the 12 Maple Leafs who saw action recorded a steal; 11 got into the scoring column and all 12 took at least two shots. Roe led all players with 4 assists.

All 10 Saints on the roster left the gym with points, paced by 11 from Brooke Sterkowitz, 9 from Taylor Nittler and 8 from Sara White. Kaelyn Barlow matched the game high with 11 rebounds and led the team with 2 blocks.

Goshen held Holy Cross to a 32.8 percent night (20-for-61) from the floor; the Saints shot 35 percent (7-for-20) from 3-point range, better than their mark from inside the arc. The Maple Leafs shot 28 percent (19-for-68) from the floor but made up for it with 25 free throws.

The lead changed hands twice in the opening three minutes before Roe's 3-pointer, her first field goal of the year, sparked a 10-1 run to break open a 9-all deadlock.

The Maple Leafs went 10-of-15 from the foul line in the first half, leading 34-25 at the intermission, and led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter after starting the period on a 9-2 run.

The Maple Leafs are back in action twice this weekend as they take the floor at the Viterbo University tip-off classic in La Crosse, Wisconsin. GC opens the tournament against 17th-ranked Cardinal Stritch University at 2 p.m. EDT on Friday afternoon.
