The Wildcats shot 39 percent (26-for-66) from the floor for the game, and that included a 4-for-5 mark in the extra period. Goshen connected at a 45 percent rate for the game and went 9-of-22 (41 percent) from downtown. One of the differences came at the foul line, where IWU scored 22 points to Goshen's 9.

Goshen (0-5, 0-2) scored 13 of the game's first 20 points before Indiana Wesleyan scored eight straight in the first quarter, leading 15-13 at the end of 10 minutes. The Wildcats also led by as many as 5 in the second quarter at 21-16 before Rougeau went on a personal 5-0 run into the locker room and made it 32-28 at the intermission.

The Maple Leaf defense held IWU without a basket for almost five minutes in the middle of the third period, fleshing the lead out to 11 at 46-35 and then 12 at 50-38 with 97 seconds left. While Goshen led 50-43 through half an hour of play, that came in the midst of a 10-2 Wildcat run across the quarteer break.

Another 5-0 Rougeau run reopened the lead to 58-50 just before the midpoint of the fourth, but IWU answered with 12 consecutive points. Claire Rauck put an end to that when she scored with 1:51 remaining; after two straight empty possessions on both ends, Roe found Cockerham in the lane to tie the score at 62 with 9.5 seconds left.

Indiana Wesleyan called timeout to advance the ball into the forecourt, then threw away the inbound pass before getting the ball back on the alternating possession arrow. Merrell and Jordan Reid each missed shots in the closing seconds and the game went to overtime.

Both teams scored on their first possessions of overtime, but Goshen missed on its second trip and turned the ball over on its third. In that span, IWU was 5-for-6 at the foul line; the final total was four field goals and 11 foul shots in the added 5 minutes.

IWU finished with 17 steals to Goshen's 5 and 42 rebounds to 34.
