Box Score UPLAND, Ind. — Michael Bowers led the Goshen College men's basketball team in scoring for the second straight game, dropping 15 points to go with 13 from Austin Branagan on Tuesday as the Maple Leafs lost a 98-69 decision to Taylor University in Odle Arena.
Bowers and Branagan each led the Maple Leafs with 7 rebounds, a total matched by Ben Cotton, as Goshen outrebounded its host 36-30 including 16-4 on the offensive glass.
Ryan Robinson and Mason Degenkolb each scored 21 points to lead the Trojans (14-13, 6-9), who put five players in double figures with 15 points from Jason Hubbard, 13 from Vincent Miranda and 11 from CJ Penha. Penha added a game-high 14 rebounds, nearly half of the Trojans' total, for a double-double.
The Maple Leafs (4-23, 0-15) were perfect at the foul line, outdoing a Taylor side that went 14-of-17 for 82 percent. The Trojans had the edge from the floor, though, shooting 60 percent overall and 44 percent from 3-point range.
Miranda led all players with 3 steals, Robinson added 5 assists and Hubbard posted all 4 of the game's blocks.
Landon Newnum scored 9 points for GC and Kedrick Bibby added a career-high 8.
Taylor led 53-30 at halftime and went 18-for-30 from the floor in each half.
Goshen returns home to host Senior Day on Saturday in the first game of a two-game homestand against Marian University. Tip-off is set for approximately 3 p.m. after the Maple Leaf women meet the Knights at 1 in the early game. Goshen's three seniors in the class of 2020 — Alyson Prigge from the women's team and Ben Cotton and Tanner Camp from the men's team — will be recognized between games.
