GOSHEN, Ind. – The Maple Leafs women's volleyball team lost in three sets on Saturday afternoon to Mount Vernon Nazarene 25-16, 25-13, 25-16. The Cougars are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
Goshen hung around early with MVNU early in the first and second sets but the Cougars pulled away during each. The third set was the best for Goshen. After quickly falling to a 4-0 deficit, the Leafs eventually saw themselves in a 14-6 hole. But Goshen went on an 8-3 run thanks to kills by
Madison Coles,
Sadie Brenneman, and
Emily Lynch. The early deficit was too much for the Maple Leafs to come back from, however, and Mount Vernon Nazarene took the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0. The Cougars have now won eight of their last nine matches.
Jaelyn Amhdar had 22 assists for the match. In five of her last seven matches, she has had 20 or more assists. In her first 19 matches, she only had one such occasion.
Naomi Willis led both teams with 13 digs. In her last six matches, she has had double-digit digs in four of them. In her first 24 matches, it had happened once.
Freshman
Riley Ratliff played in a couple of sets for the Maple Leafs today and had three digs. This tied a career-best for her, with the other occasion being when Goshen played at Mount Vernon Nazarene on September 17
th.
