Goshen starts season off with a bang – put up 100 on Andrews

Maple Leafs win by 72

GOSHEN, Ind. – The women's basketball team put up some impressive numbers on Wednesday night that haven't been seen in a couple of decades.

Goshen beat the Andrews University Cardinals 100-28 on the way to their first win of the season. The last time the Maple Leafs scored 100 points in regulation was on December 15th, 2000 in a 101-71 win over Warner Southern College in Florida (now Warner University). The 72-point victory is the largest margin for the team, also dating back to 2000. On November 11th of that year, Goshen beat IU Northwest by 87 points – 111-24.

Goshen scored the first points twenty seconds into the game and never looked back. They built a 24-3 lead in the first eight minutes and led 52-11 at the half. The Maple Leafs didn't let go of the gas very much in the second half either. They outscored the Cardinals 48-17 in the latter half.

Goshen shot 48% from the field and held Andrews to 23%. Andrews also shot just 8% from the three-point line. 58 of the Maple Leafs' points came in the paint, and 59 came from bench players.

In a well-rounded team effort, five players had double-digit points for Goshen. Emme Boots led the way with 13, Taniece Chapman had 12. Janara Flowers and Sa'drea Rougeau each had 11 and Suzanna Yoder added 10 of her own. Chapman was 6-7 from the field, and Syanne Mohamed had four steals. The team capitalized off of the Cardinals' mistakes, scoring 38 points off turnovers. They also had 14 fast break points and Andrews didn't have any.

The level of competition for Goshen dramatically increases on Sunday when they face Division-I Western Michigan in an exhibition match. That will take place at 1:00 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Their next NAIA foe will be IU Northwest on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:00 pm. Come to the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium that evening and see if the Maple Leafs can repeat their 2000 matchup against the RedHawks!
