Lynch has career-high four blocks in season finale loss at Huntington

Goshen made numerous improvements from a season ago

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Goshen women's volleyball team wrapped up their season Saturday afternoon in Huntington. The Foresters came away victorious in three sets, winning 25-20, 25-22, 25-18.
 
Each team scored 12 of the first 24 points in the first set, but Huntington would then score eight of the next ten on the way to a 25-20 win in set one. Goshen got off to a hot 7-1 lead in the next set. Maddy Beaver had an ace and Naomi Willis and Sadie Brenneman each had kills on the way to that lead. But Huntington (14-20, 5-13 CL) responded with a 10-2 run and moved forward to a 25-21 win. In the third, the Foresters got a large enough lead early on and ran with it, wrapping up the match with a 25-16 set.
 
Goshen had seven total blocks whereas Huntington had six. Goshen also had fewer errors than Huntington in the first and second sets. Emily Lynch had a career-high four blocks. Beaver also recorded four. Willis and Jaelyn Amhdar had nine assists each. The 13 digs by Brenneman were tied for the most by any player on the court. Christina Towne posted 12 digs. Of her last six matches, she had four where she recorded double-digit digs.
 
Goshen concludes the season with a 4-32 record. In their four wins, they combined to only lose one set – sweeping three of the matches. The team saw improvements in several statistical categories compared to the shortened 2020 season. Their kills per set improved from 5.2 to 8.9, assists per set went up from 5.0 to 8.0. The team averaged 0.4 more aces per set and 3.5 more digs per set. Lastly, they had 1.2 blocks per set compared to just 0.7 per set last year.
 
All-conference awards will be announced after the conference tournament.
