Leafs face first loss of season against unbeaten Rio Grande

Rougeau scores 17 off the bench for the Maple Leafs

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – With both teams at 2-0, someone had to lose. And unfortunately for Goshen, they would be the ones putting a mark in the loss column after falling 108-76 to Rio Grande (Ohio) on Friday night.

This was the first match for Goshen in this weekend's Rio Grande Classic. It was sure to be an offensive affair, as Goshen came into the match ranked 23rd in the NAIA in points per game and Rio Grande was ranked 9th. The Maple Leafs came into their third game of the season with a +73 point differential, and the Red Storm was not far behind at +60.

The Red Storm scored at least 25 points in each quarter on their way to a 100+ point performance. Goshen started the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run, cutting Rio Grande's lead from 30 to 20. Yet the home team's offense wouldn't be stopped for long as they continued to find ways to score.

Sa'drea Rougeau looked impressive off the bench. She went 6-10 on the court with 17 points attached to her name. Ta'niece Chapman was also 6-10 and scored 16 points. She added five rebounds and two steals.

The Maple Leafs will recover from the loss quickly and be ready to perform tomorrow afternoon. At 1:00 they will play their second and final match of the Rio Grande Classic. The opponent will be West Virginia Tech, who lost to #9 Concordia 74-59.
