Taylor deals GC three-set loss Wednesday night

Beaver, Lynch each responsible for 3 of team's 5 blocks

UPLAND, Ind. — The Goshen College women's volleyball team lost a Crossroads League match to Taylor University on Wednesday night, going down 25-17, 25-11 and 25-15 in three sets inside Odle Arena on the TU campus.

Emily Lynch and Maddy Beaver led the Maple Leafs (3-13, 0-5) with three blocks apiece while Emma Dippon had a pair. Christina Towne added a team-high 2 aces.

Amanda Adams racked up 14 kills and Ryan Czerniak had 12 to lead Taylor (14-2, 4-1), which registered 12 hitting errors in the first set before cleaning things up and posting 8 errors in the last two sets combined while recording 25 kills in the same span. TU hit .204 and added 8 aces and 11 blocks.

Kacy Bragg led all players with 32 assists on Taylor's 59 kills. Naomi Willis added 9 assists and 8 digs for GC.

The teams traded early four-point runs before Taylor stuck two of them back-to-back in the first set, turning a 6-4 hole into a 12-6 lead. Three Bragg kills in a 5-0 run made it 19-10 and Czerniak had back-to-back winners from Bragg to close the set.

The Maple Leafs put together a 5-1 spurt to level the second set at 8 but would not win another point on their own serve until the third stanza, with Taylor getting four runs of at least three points to cruise to a two-set lead. Towne's ace finally stopped the bleeding after GC's second sideout of the third set, allowing Goshen to crawl back into the set at 18-13, but a 5-0 Trojan run with three Grace Isaacs points capped that thought of a comeback.

Goshen makes its longest road trip of the CL season on Friday night, visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio at 7 p.m.
